NOT something happening at our workshop - we are breaking the silence!

We had a ceremony to remember women we have lost, and to celebrate their lives and our ability to tell stories.

I’m privileged to be part of this process: my journey to an anticipated destination…of healing has begun (many thanks to APC…WENT and Women’s Net …and those behind the scenes). Rare moments…this is one of those times that I’ve allowed myself to be angry, and show it and still feel good about it afterwards. I do not fell like I’m vain. I’ve shared my story with sisters and comrades in a safe space, and a supportive environment. I’ve been listened to…and not judged. My story has been received, my feelings have not been denied. I’m spending time with people who have chosen to listen to, and believe my story. Something young women living in African communities do not always find…at least in my own context.
Taking control...
Right now, I’m very excited because my experiences, thoughts, beliefs, struggles, and victories will definitely form the basis for tomorrow’s history. As a young feminist activist…I believe the world is indeed a global village, and we find our niche in embracing ICTs in documenting our experiences….to tell our story, define and redefine our struggles and realities…challenge injustice through naming and shaming! Aluta continua maAfrica.

Isn't it amazing? How much one can learn in a day? I can't believe there's so much one can do to change the meaning of a photo. I have been working on my photos and well, i am impressed. Can't wait to do the rest. I also listened to my voice-telling my story and im confused as to how i feel about it. The whole process is fun though. So much fun. And the bottom line is, i will not have to look for someone to edit my photos back home- i'll just get down and do it! Wow. I'm elated.
